A Mozambique Airlines (LAM) plane had to return to Maputo airport after colliding with birds, causing damage to the aircraft. This is the second incident of this kind in a week, according to the company.

In the statement, LAM explained that the event occurred on Saturday, in Inhambane, when "birds hit the aircraft" during take-off, causing damage to one of the sensors.

"As a result of the incident, the aircraft, which was scheduled to fly from Inhambane to Quelimane and then to Beira and Maputo, had to return immediately to the country's capital, where the company's operational base is located," said LAM representatives.

The company also added that the landing at Maputo International Airport "was successful, without the need for special assistance for either the passengers or the crew", and the aircraft underwent a technical overhaul before being returned to operations within a few hours.

On March 21, another LAM aircraft was forced to return to Maputo airport after colliding with a "group of birds", which caused damage to one of the reactors and resulted in the need to reschedule flights.

In a statement, LAM said that the incident involved the aircraft that was on the Maputo/Nampula/Maputo route, shortly after taking off from the capital's airport.
