Chapo calls for peace at Eid ul-Fitr celebration

During the Eid ul-Fitr festivities, the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, stressed the importance of promoting peace among Mozambicans, regardless of their religious beliefs. The statement came on Sunday, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, a period of fasting and reflection for the Muslim community.

Chapo stressed that peace-building must begin in the family environment and extend throughout society.

"By cultivating love, we also cultivate peace, and consequently we reap both," he said. The president reiterated that violence, rancor and intolerance must not find a place in Mozambican society.

The head of state's speech comes at a time when the country is facing challenges related to stability, including armed conflicts in the north and social tensions. Although the presidential message is a call for unity, the question remains as to how these words can be translated into concrete actions to consolidate national harmony.

On the occasion, Chapo congratulated the Muslim community and wished everyone an Eid Mubarak.

"We are here to celebrate with our Muslim brothers, from Rovuma to Maputo and beyond," he said.

The president also emphasized the benefits of fasting, both spiritual and physical, comparing it to maintaining a car to ensure it runs smoothly over time.

Sheikh Aminuddin Muhamad, president of the Islamic Council of Mozambique, expressed his gratitude for the President's presence and reinforced his desire for peace in the country. "We need peace, Mr. President. Mozambicans are tired of conflict," emphasized the religious leader, calling for unity and reconciliation among citizens.

Chapo reaffirmed his commitment to interfaith dialogue and social inclusion, mentioning his participation in Iftar meetings during Ramadan. The celebration of Eid ul-Fitr symbolizes gratitude, sharing and the renewal of essential values such as fraternity, solidarity and love for others.
